Questions & answers
What contractors ask us
The questions we field most, answered the way we would answer them on the phone.
How much does temporary fence rental cost?
It depends on linear feet, how long you need it, the install method and any gates or screen. There is no honest flat number we can quote without seeing the site, so the walkthrough and written quote are free. We aim to beat any comparable price for a similarly installed fence.
How tall is your fence?
Six feet. Our panels are 6 ft by 12 ft, built on heavy-gauge 1-3/8" galvanized pipe with 2-1/4" 12.5-gauge chain link laced on all four sides. Six feet is the construction industry standard and what most Utah jurisdictions expect on a site perimeter.
Is there a height requirement for construction site fencing?
Six feet is the construction industry standard, and it is what most Southern Utah jurisdictions specify in their permit conditions. Your general contractor's site rules and your insurer may set it as well, so check those for the specific job. Our panels are 6 ft by 12 ft. OSHA's construction standards call for barriers around particular hazards — excavations, crane swing radius, signed hazardous areas — and we link each of those provisions on our OSHA page.
How long does installation take?
Most jobs in and around Cedar City go in within a day or two of the agreement, and we schedule the install for a date that suits your sequence. A very large perimeter takes longer — we will give you the real timeline in the quote rather than a hopeful one.
Can you install on concrete or asphalt?
Asphalt yes — we can drive posts into it. Concrete no; a post cannot go through a slab. On concrete we use panels on stands with sandbags, which works well and leaves the slab untouched.
What is the longest fence you have installed?
6,400 linear feet — more than a mile — at American Pacific west of Cedar City, for Whiting Turner. The shortest was 100 feet. Both get the same walkthrough.
Will the fence hold in Southern Utah wind?
That is the whole question here, and our answer is our record: since 2021 we have not had a temporary fence blow over or fall down during a contract. The way we get that is by matching the anchoring to the site rather than installing the same thing everywhere, and by being straight with you about windscreen, which turns a fence into a sail.
Do I have to maintain the fence during the rental?
A quick walk of the line now and then is worth it: check the connections, snug up anything loose, keep signage visible and the perimeter clear of debris. If a panel gets damaged, a vehicle clips the line, or you need a change order, call us. Damage, replacements and change orders are added to the rental total, so the sooner we hear, the smaller that gets.
Do you do events, not just construction?
Yes. Panels on stands are ideal for events — quick to set, quick to strike, and no holes left in the grass afterward.
Do you rent to homeowners?
Yes, residential as well as commercial. We also occasionally sell off used panels, which are a cheap way to fence a dog run or a garden if you do not mind that they look well used.
What areas do you serve?
Most of Southern Utah: Cedar City, Parowan, Brian Head, St. George, Hurricane, Washington, LaVerkin, Toquerville, Santa Clara, Bloomington, New Harmony, and the places in between. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask.
